Now for the explanation of the assault ferry rule, and how it relates to a regular assault:

In a regular assault, the only Units that can Opp Fire are those in the hex being assaulted (see series rule 18.7.3). If the assault is successful, the assaulting units are placed in the hex they assaulted. This does not trigger any additional opportunity fire. The assaulting Units only leave their hex if the assault is successful, otherwise they do not leave their hex.

For the Assault Ferry, the Opportunity Fire is triggered for all non-phasing Units that can do so, not just those in the hex being assaulted. The Units in the hex being assaulted do not get an additional Opp Fire attempt for being in the hex that is being assaulted, they just get the one attempt that is triggered by the assault ferry. The sentence you quoted was added to clarify for players that Units in the hex being assaulted only get one Opp Fire attempt, and not two (one triggered by the assault ferry, and one for being in the hex assaulted).

does this make sense? If not, please ask more questions, and i'll try and clarify the situation. The key thing to keep in mind is that a regular assault follows the procedure exactly as described in the series rules, whereas the Assault Ferry has the slight change where all non-phasing units get to Opp Fire, not just those in the defender's hex (and we wanted folks to understand that the Units in the defender's hex don't get a second Opp fire attempt).
